Quotes & getting started
Before you get in touch
How do I get a quote?
Call, email or send your details through the form on this page. We will arrange a time to come and look at the job, talk through what you want and what is realistic, and then send you an itemised quote.
Is the site visit and quote free?
Yes. Free site visits and honest quotes, with no obligation and no pressure. You are not committing to anything by asking.
What do you need from me to quote accurately?
A clear idea of what you want, access to see the space, and any drawings or planning documents you already have. If you do not have drawings, that is fine, we often work from a clear brief. The more we can see on site, the fewer unknowns end up in the price.
Why do you insist on coming out rather than quoting over the phone?
Because the things that drive the cost of building work, such as ground conditions, what is actually behind the walls and how we get materials in, cannot be seen from a floor plan. A phone quote on this kind of work is a guess, and guesses get corrected upwards once the job starts.
Do you deal with planning permission and building control?
We build to current building regulations and work with building control inspections through the job as standard. On planning, we will tell you at the site visit whether your property is likely to need permission, which in Brighton and Hove depends heavily on conservation areas and Article 4 directions.
Will I need a structural engineer or an architect?
For anything involving movement, foundations or removing structure, an engineer's design is needed, and we will say so and work to it. We can arrange the engineer if you do not have one. An architect is worth it for bigger design decisions, but plenty of jobs do not need one.
How much notice do you need before starting?
It depends what is already booked in. Call and ask and we will tell you honestly what our availability looks like, rather than saying yes and then keeping you waiting.
Do you need to tell my neighbours about the work?
If we are building off or cutting into a shared party wall, which is common in terraced and semi-detached property, the Party Wall Act applies and notice has to be served, with notice periods attached. We flag this early because it is a frequent cause of delay that has nothing to do with the building work itself.
